Career & Work History

I’ve been very fortunate to have worked in some of the most renowned an recognised companies. Yet, I’ve also worked a fair amount in small companies, with close teams and brilliant people.

Since starting my eCommerce career at Shopping.com, I’ve mainly worked in marketing but with a strong link to analytics and business intelligence. I’ve also held more analytical roles as well as headed the Business intelligence team for brightsolid Online Publishing.

My strength and passions are to combine automated data-driven decision making into marketing. I’ve built and consulted on bidding and attribution platforms and other tools to improve marketing processes.

Zoro tools UK is a single-channel online broad-line distributor of tools and MRO products. Zoro was launched on the back of the success we’ve had re-launching the Cromwell.co.uk site.

Practically the whole digital team from Cromwell moved over to Zoro on the 20th of November 2017. Zoro, like Cromwell, is 100% owned by WW Grainger Inc.

Cromwell is a 30-year-old manufacturer and distributor of tools and industrial supplies. I joined Cromwell shortly after their acquisition by WW Grainger.

Grainger was looking to re-boot the sparse Cromwell digital offering, sensing an opportunity in the UK market.

Gousto aims to revolutionise the way we cook and buy groceries. Seeing the traditional supermarket supply chain as incredibly wasteful, their aim was to make it easy for customers to cook exciting recipes with exact ingredients delivered to your door in exact quantities – no waste.

Senior Account Director Biddable Media
Jul 2013 – Dec 2014

Essence practically manages Google’s digital advertising in EMEA and, at the time I worked here, employed over 200 people that were working exclusively for Google.

I was contracted to the Google Media Labs team as an account director for biddable media in EMEA – meaning I was looking after a team of up to 41 digital marketers of all levels of experience, managing up to 29 campaigns for various Google products in a given quarter.

Vanquis offers credit cards to people who’ve experienced difficulties because of previous unpaid credits and loans. This is sometimes referred to a sub-prime credit card.

The idea is that customers can rebuild their credit score with a card that has limited credit and a company that is willing to take the risk in exchange for really high-interest rates.

Head of Digital Marketing & BI Systems
Nov 2009 – Apr 2013

brightsolid aimed to become the home of history online. As well as a hosting company based in Dundee, brightsolid owned and operated a number of family history websites and specialised in the acquisition and digitalisation of personal records.

When they acquired the Friends Reunited group I was tasked with managing the digital marketing for the portfolio of seven family history websites, three dating sites (that were later sold to Cupid plc) and a new newspaper archive which was a collaboration with the British Library.

BI Analyst
Oct 2009 – Nov 2009

Tripadvisor is the defacto review central for hotels on the internet. I joined the team for a brief period as an analyst in their key account team.

SHOP.COM was one of the first online marketplaces and helped develop the Amazon marketplace. Their trademarked OneCart technology allowed you to buy products from multiple stores through one checkout.

Later on, SHOP.COM added more shopping comparison elements to their services and eventually was sold to Market America.

Marketing Support – Contractor
Jun 2006 – Dec 2006

I moved across to PayPal when they were about to launch a partner site with Shopping.com in the UK. Shopping with PayPal was an SCE exclusively for merchants that allowed PayPal purchases in their checkout.

Sadly, SCEs were already on the way out. However, it was an exciting time to join PayPal as they just launched their white-label solution and so I got involved in a number of marketing driven projects to help grow PayPal’s usage on and off eBay.

Sales Executive – Contractor
Nov 2005 – Jun 2006

Shopping.com was one of the biggest SCEs and just acquired by eBay when I joined the company to develop the German market where the site launch was imminent. I really learned a lot about the industry in this, my first, true eCommerce role.
